It seems like in today’s world of the Internet, text messages, and social networks, the Birthday Card has become almost an obsolete or unnecessary commodity. I’ll be honest, I stopped giving birthday cards to people a long time ago. I almost never include them in holiday gifts or birthday gifts… unless I find one that is just perfect for the recipient. We have found other ways to send birthday greetings to our loved ones.

My birthday was on Friday and I decided to conduct a little experiment of sorts. At 1:49am on early on Friday morning (or late Thursday night), I woke up from the sound of my phone receiving a text message. It was Facebook letting me know that someone had written on my wall. I gave a groan, rolled over, and went back to bed. At 6:46am another text message. Again, Facebook letting me know that someone else had written on my wall. Another at 7:03am, 7:08am, and 7:31am. Partially annoyed and partially grateful at these message, I started to wonder how this would continue throughout the day. I decided to take note of every Facebook wall post and what time it was posted. I was curious as to how many posts I was getting per hour, when were most people posting, etc. I compiled the data together and came up with the graphs you see below.

Sort of boring stuff… but whatever! I thought it was somewhat interesting.
